Our Story

Spectrum Journeys started in a lounge room back in 2011.  After years of working in community services, I had the idea to start our own to meet the needs of families, just like mine.  We met with a bunch of passionate women who wanted to make a difference and provide support for families who have a child on the Autism Spectrum and filled pages with dreams of schools and early childhood services embracing Autism, with low cost and accessible workshop ideas and the beautiful Blessing Bag project to encourage Carers.

We have had many seasons of growth, stretching and learning over the last 5 years.  It can take a long time for things to move quickly.  We have steadily grown with a core group of passionate volunteers and our Board.  Our vision is to equip and empower.  Why?  With 50% of our team having children on the Autism Spectrum, and the other 50% having experience supporting children through service provision, education and therapy, it is deeply personal to us.  We believe that children on the Autism Spectrum should be seen from a strengths viewpoint and supported well so that they can flourish.  We are passionate about seeing families thrive and for educational settings to be safe, warm and beautifully inclusive so that everyone gets an opportunity to learn, grow and participate well.

In 2017, we took the big, bold step to open our on Hub.  Since then, we have rapidly expanded with support from incredible people and the Yarra Ranges Community Branches of Bendigo Bank.  This incredible growth is due to phenomenal volunteers, with many of those being Carers.  Having a Hub with community support programs and therapy options has been a dream for a long time.  Ask any parent of a child on the Autism Spectrum and they will blow you away with how they juggle multiple therapy visits a week in various locations.  Our Hub allows for a few therapists to operate and see families, as well as those families having the opportunity to connect with high quality education and Carer support.

Our story is still being written and it is a gorgeous tapestry of lives interwoven.  We get to work with the most incredibly selfless people who are always elevating and honouring others in the most compassionate and caring way.  We see children who are unique and wonderful.  We see families build resilience and thrive. We are truly privileged to be part of Spectrum Journeys and we are passionate about the work we do.  We appreciate your support!
