Parenting your ASD Pre-Teen and Adolescent in the Social Media age: How to confidently and effectively keep your pre-teen or teen safe online

Teens today are living in a world where much of their social communication is through SnapChat, InstaStories and other social media. It is true that social media can open up wonderful possibilities for an adolescent with ASD to connect with others virtually and build meaningful relationships. However, as a parent of an adolescent with ASD you might be concerned that your child is particularly vulnerable to misinterpreting non-verbal social cues and be an easy target for cyber-bullying. Your best defence against the dangers of social media and the risks to your adolescent with ASD is the knowledge to empower your child to safely navigate the waters of social media. If you want to feel confident that you can set firm boundaries and monitor social media use effectively then this workshop is for you. You will leave the evening with practical strategies to immediately implement that will help keep your child with ASD safe on social media.

 Learning Outcomes:

  • Awareness of the current and emerging social media trends that teenagers are using
  • Understand how social media can help kids on the Autism Spectrum feel socially engaged and connected
  • Raised awareness of the risks to children on the Autism Spectrum and how to protect them from harm
  • Feel confident setting boundaries and limits around social media use
